The older I get, the less "stuff" I want in my possession to be responsible for or to clean. I finally realized I am NEVER going to make that quilt, so why hold on to 30 lbs of fabric scraps that are just taking up room!!! You only need so many rolls of yarn, greeting cards, craft supplies....as I am cleaning out the craft room, I'm finding gifts that I have bought (and forgotten) among other items that have absolutely no purpose. Out they go!!!
I have also learned recently that if you clean the kitchen between 2 & 4 am (insomnia) that when you get up again at 6, it is still clean!!! I never knew you could wake up to a clean kitchen counter. I thought it was a myth !!!
Teenagers don't like it when Mom gets on her cleaning kick, especially then it involves cleaning their room. But I have learned that if you threaten to clean it yourself, meaning that gives you access to all their "stuff", they will comply...LOL.
When grown children move out, they also take your furniture with them, then come back to take anything else they forgot....guess Mom's getting new furniture in the near future.
And of course during all of this, Dad is complaining about all the clutter, but when it goes into garbage bags or Goodwill boxes, his voice start ringing through the house, "I paid good money for all that stuff!!!!" Is there such a thing as "bad" money?????
I'm sure at some point, I will need to rebuy something that I have gotten rid of, then his deep voice will again be heard, "I told you not to get rid of it, now you need it and will have to buy it again. You need organization and structure." Looks like after 23 years he would learn it "ain't gonna happen"....lol. But you gotta love a man who sticks to his guns...LOL. Little does he know that he IS my organization and structure and the glue that holds me together.
